Clifton and Lightcliffe 'B' Band
1977 saw the formation of thejunior section within the band. John Clay decided that the younger members of the senior band would benefit from some extra tuition. On Saturday mornings from the initial group of 4 children the junior band blossomed into an independent group of 25 players. The group was called the junior band but over time has included more senior members; these are mainly parents who have brought their children to learn and decided to take up an instrument themselves. We do encourage anyone to play and as time goes by these players will be the foundation of the senior band.
In 2010 the Junior band was changed to the B band as we now have around 50% adults, the membership has also grown to 32 players. Last year saw the 'B' band for the first time enter the National Brass Band Championships qualifying rounds in the 4 section at St Georges Hall Bradford, out of 12 bands they managed 11 position. In 2011 they again entered the competition and improved their position to 9 out of 12 bands. We are all very pleased with the progress of our B band and it is very encouraging for the future of the organisation.
