FANTASTIC RESULTS FOR BOTH BANDS

SENIOR BAND WINS 2ND SECTION YORKSHIRE AREA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Saturday 3rd March National Brass Band Championships Qualifying Rounds

We entered both our senior and B band in the qualifying rounds.  Senior band in the 2nd section and B band in the 4th section.

The test piece for the senior band was Cross Patonce by Goff Richards a difficult but very interesting piece in three movements which is full of tricky time signatures and a beautiful melodic second movement all based on French tunes.
The band got the dreaded number 1 draw out of a possible 12 and started the whole weekend off at 10.30am on Saturday morning. We delivered what we thought was a good performance and hopefully set a good marker for the rest of the bands.

Result time:
6th Lindley
5th Barnsley Chronicle
4th Strata
3rd Cornerstone
2nd City of Bradford
1ST CLIFTON AND LIGHTCLIFFE

We are all delighted, fantastic news, all the hard work since Christmas paid off.  We now have an invitation to compete in the National Brass Band Finals at Cheltenham on Saturday 22nd September.

The remarks from the adjudicators Phillip McCann and Philip Sparke were excellent and the final paragraphs from both of them said "A well directed performance by conductor and well played BE PROUD." Phillip McCann  and "This was a really fine performance you have prepared this piece REALLY well. Lots of detail in evidence and technically sound. Very impressive. Thank you"  Philip Sparke.

Our B Band then played in the afternoon with 12 bands in the section.  They drew number 11 to play. They were performing Ralph Vaughan Williams English Folk Song Suite.
They gave a really good performance which was lead by William Rushworth to agreed to conduct the band a couple of weeks before the contest as we lost one of our front row cornet players so John said he would play if we could get someone to conduct.
The band responded well to William.    THANK YOU WILLIAM FOR YOUR HELP.
Results:
6th Barnsley Metropolitan
5th CLIFTON AND LIGHTCLIFFE B
4th Maltby Miners
3rd Wilsden
2nd Armthorpe Elmfield
1st Linthwaite

A fantastic effot by our B band.  This is only the third year they have entered the contest, first year they came 11th  last year they came 9th and now 5th which is excellent steady progress through the section. You should all be really proud of yourselves and the hard work and commitment you have all given.
The remarks from the two adjudicators Colin Hardy and Mike Kilroy were very good and constructive ending "Lots to praise with some problems but the future looks bright for this band" Mike Kilroy "This was a good overall performance" Colin Hardy.

Congratulations too all the bands who competed over the weekend.

FANTASTIC WEEKEND !!!!!!
