Both bands competed in the Yorkshire Regional rounds for the National Brass Band Championships in St George's Hall Bradford this last weekend.
The senior band competed in the first section on Saturday afternoon for only the second time in its history and after drawing the dreaded number one performed Cry of the Mountain by Howard Lorriman and was placed 6th much to the delight of all the band members. The placing was the same as last year which means we have now consolidated our position in the first section.
B Band at Leicester Contest
On Sunday 24th November the B Band competed in the 4th Section for the first time at Leicester Contest.
Out of 13 bands they managed to be placed 10th which was a great effort for their first time.
We played Anglian Dances by Alan Fernie and the judge gave some very nice comments about our playing of the piece. The main problem was playing a bit too loud and the tuning in the slow movement which is always a problem for the lower section bands.
The brass band web site All4brass had down as our star players our Second cornets so very well done Olivia Gregory 14 years old and Stephanie White 10 years old.
This weekend was the Area Qualifying rounds for the Nationals Brass Band Finals and both our senior band B bands were competing.
The B Band was playing at St Georges Hall on the Saturday morning and were drawn to play last band out of a field of 11.
The piece was Eric Ball's Devon Fantasy which used as an area test piece in 1957 when our Musical Director John Clay was Clifton's 13 year old Principal Cornet.
Our band played really well on Saturday probably the best they have played the piece and were placed 7th.

Georges Hall, Bradford on Saturday 5th March.
After an early draw of
number 2 the band took to the stage to perform Eric Ball’s Resurgam.
We were all pleased with our performance and hoped we would do well in
the results. We were delighted to learn
that we had been given 6 place out of 12 competitors, a good
result for the first time in a higher section.
Congratulations to South
Yorkshire Police and Barnsley Chronicle Band who have qualified for the finals
