Both our bands have had a busy time recently. The senior band has been very busy with the Queen's Jubilee concerts starting with Rodley Ecumenical Church on 14th May where there was lots of flag waving and singing with a lovely audience.
The band travelled to Pateley Bridge which was a new venue for us on Saturday 21st May where we received a very warm welcome from Joan Blakley and her husband Ken who organised the concert in St Cuthbert's Church, we had a good concert with a very appreciative audience and Joan and her helpers had been very busy baking cakes and buns for the interval which the band really enjoyed.
Cleckheaton Town Hall has become a regular proms venue for us and this year was no exception with a capacity audience and due to John having an operation on his hand 2 days before the concert was conducted and compered by Derek Broadbent. Thank you Derek for keeping the band on its toes and the audience entertained with your amusing introductions and your dancing in Lets Twist Again which went down really well.
St Pauls Drighlington and Clifton Proms were the next venues with loads more flag waving. We had our own celebrations on Sunday 5th at the band room with around 60 people attending where we had a picnic and both our bands took turns to play on the lawn outside the band room.
Finally getting there with the celebrations Wibsey Church 11th June and for the B Band Scholes Church garden party with our new B Band conductor which I will mention in a separate article, and then Sunday 19th Filey Bandstand on a beautiful afternoon on the Crescent, it was heaving with visitors and the food and drink fayre was on at the same time. What a super audience cheering after we played.
The cost of running a brass band as any local organisation can be very expensive. The band relies on the generous donations from our Patrons and supporters throughout the year.
For £20 (or more) per year you receive our newsletters and two tickets to our annual concert which is usually held in September.
